Fall Medication Disposal Event on October 25

(WOOD COUNTY) - On Saturday, October 25, the Wisconsin Department of Justice in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Administration are conducting a statewide Drug Take-Back event. Take-back events provide a safe and responsible means of disposing of medications. Proper disposal saves lives by preventing these medications from falling into the wrong hands. Throwing medication in the trash or dumping them down a drain damages our environment.

Local law enforcement, in collaboration with Healthy People Wood County - IMPACT and Marshfield Area Coalition for Youth, are participating in events on Saturday, October 25 at the following locations:

  • Marshfield City Hall: 10 am - 2 pm
  • Pick & Save - Wisconsin Rapids Location: 10 am - 2 pm
  • Pittsville Police Department: 9 am - 12 pm
  • Port Edwards Fire Department: 11 am - 1 pm
  • Town of Rome Police Department (Adams County): 10 am - 2 pm

Bring: Capsules, creams, inhalers, non-aerosol sprays, ointments, patches, pills, vials, liquids (in original containers), pet medications, vape pens or other e-cigarette devices with batteries removed.

Do not bring: Aerosol cans, anything containing blood or bodily fluid, household hazardous waste (paint, pesticides, oil, gas), illegal drugs, iodine containing medications, mercury thermometers, personal care products (shampoo, soaps, lotions, sunscreens, etc.), sharps/syringes (accepted only at the Marshfield event), or vape devices containing built-in batteries that cannot be removed.

Place pills in a resealable bag or bring medications in their original bottles/packaging with personal information removed or crossed out and drop them in a bin- no questions asked!

If you missed a Drug Take-Back Day, drop off unwanted medications at any Wood County law enforcement agency or the following pharmacies: CVS (Wisconsin Rapids), Marshfield Clinic Pharmacy (Marshfield, main clinic pharmacy and Central Avenue pharmacy), and Walgreens (Wisconsin Rapids).

Free lock box/drawer safe resources are available for securing medications at home through Wood County Health Department (715-421-8911) and Marshfield Police Department (715-387-4394).
